The magnificent Victorian structures that are scattered throughout the city, and the many tree-filled parks create an ambience reminiscent of the deep south.   Red Cross Swimming Lessons
The City of Colusa Parks and Community Services Department is offering Red Cross Swim Lessons. Classes are ½ hr. in length and run for two weeks. There are two sessions scheduled: June 16th thru June 27th and July 7th thru 18th. There will be three levels of classes taught:
  • Level 1- Non Swimmers ages 4 and older learn to be comfortable in and around water.
  • Level 2- Beginners ages 4 and older learn to glide, kick, and the basic clawl stroke.
  • Level 3- Intermediate Beginners ages 6 and older learn elementary backstroke, correct breathing techniques with the crawl stroke deep-water swimming and treading water.

Cost for each session is $35 per student that resides within the City limits and $40 for students living outside the City limits. These classes tend to fill rather quickly so please do not hesitate to sign up soon. All those interested in registering must come in to City Hall between 8 and 5pm. City Hall is located at 425 Webster Street Colusa.

  Community swimming pool opens
The Colusa Community Pool is slated to open to the public on Saturday, May 31st at 1pm. Pool hours are 1-6 pm, Monday thru Saturday, closed on Sunday.  All ages are welcome to swim between 1-4 pm and from 4-6 pm is family hour.  Cost to swim is $.50 per children under l8 years of age and $1.00 for those l8 years of age and older.  Family season pass is available at $60 per family plus $1 per person on the plan.  Anyone wishing additional information on the pool should call 458-5622 ext 107 or 109. 

  Mature drivers classes
The City of Colusa Parks and Community Services Department is offering the popular Mature Drivers Class for all those residents 50 years of age and older. This course consists of eight hours of class instruction, which will be held in the conference room at City Hall, 425 Webster Street in Colusa.

Classes will be held on Tuesday, May 6th and Wednesday, May 7th from 1 to 5pm.

AARP charges $10.00 for the certificate; an additional $5.00 per person is required for administration fees.

People completing the course may be eligible to receive a discount up to 15% on their auto insurance. The last day to register for this course is Wednesday April 30, 2008. Registration forms may be obtained at City Hall, 425 Webster Street.

This Certificate is valid for three years. There is also a refresher course for those who have previously taken this course and wish to continue receiving a discount on their auto insurance. The refresher course will be offered later in the fall this year. For more information you may call 458-5622 ext 109.

  TREE COMMISSION VACANCY
The City of Colusa is currently seeking citizens who would like to volunteer to serve on the City Tree Commission.  The Commission is a five (5) member advisory board to the City Council.  Meetings are held once a month on the third Wednesday at 5:15 PM at City Hall.  Currently there are two (2) openings on the Commission that need to be filled.  The Commission acts on requests for removal of trees that are located in the parkway which is the grass area between the curb and sidewalk in the older part of town as well as working with staff on the maintaining of these trees.  Anyone wishing to serve on this Commission needs to complete an application form that may be picked up at City Hall or click here to down load the application.  The Last day to submit applications is April 28th.

  SEMI-ANNUAL FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING PROGRAM TO BEGIN
The City of Colusa Public Works Department will begin the semi-annual fire hydrant flushing program the week of March 31st.  Public Works staff will be working throughout the month of April flushing fire hydrants and the water system throughout town. Flushing will begin in the Main and 12th street area and work to the east and south each day.  If citizens experience brown or dirty water during this time they should contact City Hall at 458-4941 ext101 and additional staff will be sent out to flush that immediate area.

  Men & women's softball coaches meeting
The Colusa Parks and Community Services Department will be conducting an organizational meeting for all those who plan on having a men’s or women’s softball team in the upcoming summer league.  The organizational meeting will be on Wednesday,  April 2, 2008 at the City Hall, 425 Webster Street.  All teams wishing to participate MUST have a representative present to be guaranteed a spot in the league.  Men’s play is scheduled to begin May 5th and women’s play will begin May 20th.  Items to be decided upon at the meeting will be:  league format, rules, nights of play, time of games, entry fees and date by which rosters must be turned in.  Anyone wishing additional information about the meeting should call 458-5622 ext 107.

  lifeguard training class
The City of Colusa will be once again offering a Lifeguard Training Class.  This class will be available to all those who need to renew CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Training as well as those wishing to obtain certification for the first time. Classes will be held at the City Hall, 425 Webster Street beginning Tuesday, April 1st. .  Classes for CPR will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, April 1st and 3rd from 5:30-7:30pm. Classes for First Aid will be held on Saturday, April 5th from 10am-2pm and Tuesday and Thursday, April 8th & 10th with class ending on Tuesday, April 15th.  Classes will be held from 5:30-7:30 pm on all of the evenings at the City Hall.Classes for the swimming and lifeguard portion of the certification will be held Thursday, April l7th from 5:30-7:30 pm at City Hall and Saturday and Sunday, April l9th & 20th 10am-2pm at the Colusa Indian Community Wellness Center swimming pool. All those wishing additional information regarding cost of class, materials, registration forms, etc. should stop by City Hall, 425 Webster Street or call 458-5622 ext. 107 for more details. The City of Colusa is once again making plans to conduct the Annual Spring Clean Up Day.  This years event will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 8 am to 1 pm at the City Maintenance yard located at Will S. Green and Colus Ave. This event is open to City of Colusa residents only.  Proof of residency, e.i. water bill, drivers license, etc will be required to be shown at the gate.  This is a great opportunity to clean out your garage, get rid of all those items you have stored in your back yard, prune those over grown shrubs, cut down those weeds and dispose of it all FREE...

Old washers, dryers, couches, chairs, beds, refrigerators, fencing material, tables and chairs are all items that can be disposed of at this event. Items that ARE NOT allowed are TV’s, computers, paints, batteries, tires, fluorescent light bulbs.
