The City of Colusa Building Department was created in 1917.  The Fire/Building Division is staffed by a fulltime combination inspector, who is fully certified in all areas of the fire and building codes.   A combination inspector examines both commercial & residential buildings for compliance with all applicable building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, energy, fire and life-safety codes. Appointments/Inspector's Office Hours:  Monday-Friday 1:00PM-3:00PM. After receiving your building permit, the following list for inspection procedures must be followed in order for the Building Department and the Building Inspector to work efficiently with you and your contractor.

  • You must speak directly to someone in the office to set up an inspection! Leaving a message on voice mail does not ensure that an inspection has been set up for you.
  • All inspections must be phoned in at least 24 hours in advance!
  • Inspections can be conducted in the morning or afternoon.
  • A building permit's location address must be given at the time that you are requesting an inspection.
  • The building inspection card (or job card) and a set of approved plans must be posted at the job site.
  • A contact number should be provided in case of time or date change of inspection.
  • If an inspection is called for and the job is not complete, a re-inspection fee of $47.00 may be imposed.
  • ALL inspection sites must be properly addressed and clearly marked at the road for easy access.  This is not only a building inspection request, but it is also necessary for the U.S. Mail, 911 emergency calls, and/or fire calls.

If all of the above procedures are not followed, an inspection will either not be scheduled or will not be conducted!
